On-Demand: Large Animal Emergency Rescue (LAER) Awareness Level

February 11, 2026

This is an online on-demand introductory course focusing on best practices when dealing with a large animal emergency situation. This awareness level course is designed to provide training for individuals responding as first responders to an incident involving an animal, including firefighters, pre-service, law enforcement, animal welfare officers, veterinarians, veterinary technicians, transporters, emergency animal response teams, horse owners, livestock producers and associations.

Responding to any related animal incident will involve people putting themselves and others at risk. Responders with training in large animal response can reduce on-scene time and costs and improve animal welfare outcomes. Through proper training of best practices, risks to responders and others involved in animal incidents are mitigated.

Proper training of best practices and appropriate use of specialized rescue equipment can improve the chances of a successful rescue and minimize risk of injury to both animals and first responders.

The information contained in this course provides awareness-level training only and is not designed to replace hands-on training.
