Help Shape the Future of Veterinary Technician Education in Ontario

The Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians (OAVT) is proud to set the educational standards for our profession, as enabled by the OAVT Act (Bill Pr 3, 1993). Our Veterinary Technician/Technology Education Accreditation Program (VTEAP) ensures that college programs meet the high standards expected of Ontario RVTs. A newly updated version of the VTEAP will launch in 2026 — and we’re looking for dedicated members to participate in this exciting next chapter.

We’re currently seeking an OAVT RVT Member in good standing who is:

  • Experienced – You have been working as an RVT for at least 5 years.
  • Thorough and trustworthy – You take pride in doing a careful, complete job and approach every task with integrity.
  • Focused and fair – You stick to the review criteria and evaluate what’s in scope for the process.
  • Reliable with timelines – You’re organized and able to meet deadlines.
  • Collaborative and engaged – You contribute actively to discussions and support your fellow team members.
  • Strong communicators – You express ideas clearly and respectfully, both in writing and conversation.
  • Sound in judgment – You can weigh evidence thoughtfully and make balanced decisions.
  • Analytical thinkers – You enjoy reviewing information, asking good questions, and drawing clear conclusions.
  • Team players – You value cooperation, mutual respect, and shared purpose.

Why join?
As a member of the College Accreditation Committee, you’ll play a direct role in reviewing college program submissions, helping ensure that future RVTs receive the best possible education. This is a meaningful opportunity to share your expertise, influence the standards of our profession, and contribute to the ongoing excellence of veterinary technician education in Ontario.

While this is a volunteer position, any associated expenses will be reimbursed and you will earn a continuing education credit.

If you’re passionate about advancing RVT education and shaping the next generation of professionals, we’d love to hear from you!
Submit your interest and relevant experience using our online application form.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact the OAVT Executive Director & Registrar Elise Wickett at Elise@oavt.org
