Registered Veterinary Technician, Part time, Float
Location: Ottawa, ON

Alta Vista Animal Hospital is welcoming a float RVT for our hospital. Great opportunity for some extra cash for a seasoned RVT. New grads are also welcome!

We offer 24-hour emergency and critical care services in our state-of-the-art facility.  Our float RVTs train in our Emergency, Critical Care/Treatment, Triage, General Practice and Specialty Departments, so they are able to fill in where needed and can continue to learn and grow their technical skills.

Schedule: Hours of work vary from 8 to 12 hours in length, including days, evenings, weekends and overnights based on availability.

Qualifications

  • Veterinary Technology college diploma
  • Fluent in English (Reading, Writing and Oral)
  • Able to support patients up to 50kg and lift to 25kg

Assessment, triage, and care of ill patients; Hourly treatments including feeding, administering medications, assessing pain/status, restraint, and lifting; Anesthetics, X-rays, and laboratory work; Stocking, cleaning, and maintenance of Emergency area and equipment; Provide lunch coverage for various departments; Math calculations, and Client updates.

Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations; Excellent time management skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks / projects; Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and teamwork skills; Proven ability to organize, take initiative, work independently, exercise good judgment; Decision-making and critical thinking skills; Ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships with professionalism and integrity; Exhibit a positive attitude and use courtesy, diplomacy and discretion; Maintain professional ethics and confidentiality.
