About the role  
You will be exposed to emergency and critical care departments as part of our integrated care model. In addition, you will experience advanced nursing techniques and other specialty procedures not routinely performed in regular practice.

Our ideal candidate will have: 

  • Veterinary Technician Specialty (VTS) in Emergency & Critical Care is considered an asset
  • Registered Veterinary Technician with the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians (required)
  • Passed the VTNE or will soon be passing the VTNE
  • Good standing with their provincial regulatory association

Skills and Effort Requirements  

  • Ability to use independent judgment and initiative
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to participate as a team member
  • Should be able to multitask
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs

 

Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Assessing and treating critically ill patients
  • Ability to identify and report changes in health status
  • IV catheterization and blood drawing skills
  • Perform and submit lab work and diagnostics
  • Ability to monitor patients during sedation procedures
  • Following treatment orders on an electronic system (e.g., EzyVet, Instinct)
  • Work well as part of a team
  • Experience working with complex ICU cases including the use of ICU ventilators and blood transfusions is considered an asset

 

Working Conditions  
This role works out of a dynamic clinic setting and requires computer usage (research, typing, etc.) and medical equipment usage. This role oversees the health and wellness of animals which may require bending, lifting, and twisting. This role requires daily attention to multiple priorities and competing demands with minimal supervision.
