Job Title: Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT)

Job Summary

The Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) provides skilled nursing care to animal patients and supports veterinarians in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. The RVT plays a critical role in patient care, client education, and the efficient operation of the veterinary facility while maintaining high standards of professionalism, ethics, and animal welfare.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical & Patient Care

  • Provide nursing care to hospitalized and outpatient animals
  • Assist veterinarians during examinations, diagnostics, surgery, and treatment procedures
  • Prepare and maintain surgical suites; assist with anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery
  • Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by a veterinarian
  • Perform diagnostic procedures such as blood collection, urinalysis, radiography, and laboratory testing
  • Monitor patients’ vital signs and report changes or concerns promptly

Client Communication & Education

  • Educate clients on post-treatment care, medications, nutrition, and preventive care
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with pet owners regarding procedures and care plans
  • Assist with client intake, discharge instructions, and follow-up care
    Medical Records & Compliance

Maintain accurate and detailed medical records

  • Ensure compliance with regulations, clinic protocols, and safety standards
  • Follow infection control, biosecurity, and animal welfare guidelines

Facility & Team Support

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of exam rooms, treatment areas, and equipment
  • Support inventory management and proper handling of medical supplies
  • Collaborate effectively with veterinarians, assistants, and support staff
  • Mentor and support veterinary assistants or trainees as needed

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited veterinary technology program
  • Current registration/licensure as a Registered Veterinary Technician
  • CPR and anesthesia monitoring certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)

  • Physical ability to lift and restrain animals safely (with assistance as needed)

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Veterinary clinic, hospital, or specialty practice setting
  • May involve standing for extended periods, lifting animals, and exposure to animals, chemicals, and anesthetic gases
  • Schedule may include evenings, weekends, holidays, or on-call shifts
