Sandy Pines Wildlife Centre is a not-for-profit wildlife rehabilitation hospital located just west of Napanee, ON. Our team works collaboratively to help over 6000 orphaned and injured wildlife each year with the end goal of releasing them back into the wild. We are licensed through the OMNRF and by Canadian Wildlife Services to provide care and shelter to all native and migrating wildlife. Work at SPWC is fast-paced and candidates must be able to multitask and maintain a professional demeanor under pressure. Our ideal candidate must work well in a team, be well organized and have excellent written and verbal communication skills. The RVT’s priority is patient care, they will not be performing any duties of the receptionist and interaction with the public is minimal.
We are looking for an RVT willing to 40+ hours/week on a 4 day work week. This job is physically demanding and the ideal candidate should be in good physical health and able to lift 40 lbs. This includes working evenings, weekends and holidays. Must have a driver’s license and a reliable method of transportation.
Daily Responsibilities:
Capture and restraint of wild patients
Administration of medications and treatments to a variety of species
Triage of newly admitted wild patients
Ensuring the emotional and physical health of patients
Keeping detailed and accurate medical records
Maintaining animal enclosures
Creating and providing animal enrichment
Preparing diets for a variety of species of all life stages
Providing compassionate care for our patients and minimizing stress
Completion of basic laboratory work
Taking radiographs
You will also be asked to occasionally assist a veterinarian in surgery when required.
Qualifications:
Registered Veterinary Technician or Technologist
Be in good standing with the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians and Technologists
Must have complete and up to date tetanus and rabies vaccines
