Reporting to the Manager of Hospital Operations, the Supervisor, Patient Care and Service Delivery is one of a team of five individuals which is responsible for supervising a team of Registered Veterinary Technicians, Hospital Assistants, Sterile Processing Department Technicians, and Animal Care Attendants at the Ontario Veterinary College Health Sciences Centre (HSC). The Supervisor ensures excellence in patient care and client experience across the Companion Animal Hospital, the Animal Cancer Centre, and the Large Animal Hospital.

The Supervisor is accountable for providing operational support to key areas, including Pharmacy, Client Services, and Medical Records, while ensuring a positive experience for clients and patients from first contact to discharge. In this role, the Supervisor takes a strategic approach to resource utilization—managing people, equipment, and operations in a complex, 24/7 patient services environment. They also contribute to the hospital’s teaching and research mission by maintaining a smooth, safe, and efficient environment while achieving fiscal targets.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Effective leadership and support of a diverse team consisting primarily of regular full-time staff, and some temporary full-time and part-time staff.
  • Staff recruitment, orientation, training, and skill development in multi-service areas, setting performance standards, and facilitating personalized performance management processes.
  • Hiring, developing, training, and coaching staff with effective performance management.
  • Coordinating staff schedules to align with service volumes, ensuring team members are cross trained across various service areas to maintain adequate coverage, providing opportunities for professional development, and effectively managing workload fluctuations.
  • Providing input to the Manager of Hospital Operations on budget formulation, major expenditures, cost recoveries and revenue generation.
  • Identifying and implementing process efficiencies to improve client service, patient care, and the teaching experience while reducing costs and/or increasing revenue.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered for the role of Supervisor, Patient Care and Service Delivery, your profile should include:

  • Two year diploma from at a CVMA or OAVT-accredited veterinary technician/technologist program and a Registered Veterinary Technician designation.
  • A one-year Certificate as a Veterinary Assistant and Office Administration is considered an asset.
  • Six years progressive supervisory experience within a veterinarian environment preferred.
  • Leadership (or managerial) experience working in a Healthcare environment will be considered.
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication, team building and promoting a teamwork environment where staff can interact productively and efficiently.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise numerous and diverse activities, prioritizing appropriately to support effective service delivery to clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, problem solve, make recommendations for change, implement and evaluate.
  • Effective knowledge of computer skills and programs (Excel, Word and Outlook).
  • Experience with Hospital Information Systems (Stringsoft) and Workforce Time Entry and Scheduling software is an asset.

A Protective Rabies Titre is a requirement for this position.
