Registered Veterinary Technician in Surgery Specialty
Full Time RVT position
40 hours per week (Monday to Thursday)
Registered Veterinary Technician in the Specialty of Veterinary Surgery
We are looking to hire a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) for our surgery department. Strengths should reflect competency in general anesthesia and client communication.
The candidate should be familiar with multiple anesthetic premedication and maintenance protocols and with advanced monitoring. A minimum of one year experience as an RVT, preferably in a specialty/referral or emergency environment, would be a strong asset for candidate.
Excellent communication skills are required and bilingualism would be a plus but is not a requirement. Attention to detail both in application of associated technical skills and organizational duties is essential. On-the-job training will provide exposure to more advanced veterinary surgical patient management.
Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:
Preparing surgery schedule in Avimark
Making sure referral forms, x-rays and reports are received for each new patient before the consultation
Assisting in making appointments in surgery (new and follow up) as well as with other services if needed (eg. radiology, oncology, etc.)
Blood draws and other technical procedures such as radiographs
Assisting the surgeon during surgical procedures.
Monitoring of the patients during procedures under sedation or anesthesia
Ordering laboratory tests
Entering laboratory test results in patient computer files
Sending laboratory test results to referring veterinarian
Preparing instruction material for owners and making sure the release forms are understood by clients
Taking care of in-patient care and treatments together with ER staff
Making sure the medical record is up to date vs. procedures, communication with clients and referring veterinarians, etc.
Helping the veterinary assistant making sure that all is clean and in order at the end of the day with the help of the veterinary assistant
Making follow up phone calls for the surgeon and answering some of the questions from clients in person, by email or by phone
