Marineland of Canada is hiring a registered veterinary technician to work with their variety of cetaceans, pinnipeds and penguins. The facility is located in Niagara Falls, Ontario. This position will work alongside the veterinarians and animal care staff to provide the best overall health and welfare for the animals.
Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:
– Collection, processing and microscopic analysis of diagnostic samples such as bloods, chuffs, gastrics, fecals, etc.
– Assisting with diagnostic imaging such as radiographs and ultrasounds
– Dispensing and administering medications and treatments under direction of veterinarian
– Observations of animals and triaging any medical concerns raised by animal care staff
– Updating inventories of medications and hospital supplies
– Assisting with training of husbandry behaviours
– Inputting records into Tracks software
– Maintaining a clean and organized work environment
Qualifications:
– Registered Veterinary Technician in the province of Ontario
– Ideally 2-5 years working in a clinical setting
– Experience working in an aquarium or zoo preferred, however all candidates are encouraged to apply
– Flexibility in schedule as needed for current medical cases
– Ability to provide coverage in rotating on-call schedule for out of hours emergencies and treatments
– Must be comfortable working in an aquatic environment
– Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including but not limited to: snow, rain, fluctuating temperature, etc.
– Hardworking, positive attitude with strong communication and problem solving skills
– Basic understanding and application of training techniques
