About Us

At Lions Foundation Canada Dog Guides (LFCDG), we help people with medical or physical disabilities lead independent lives by providing them with a dog guide at no cost to support them in their daily lives.  The school is unique in offering seven programs serving 150-200 new clients annually and supporting over 1000 active clients.  The school operates out of our central location in Oakville, ON and a breeding and training facility in Breslau, ON, with plans to move to our new leading-edge facility in early 2026.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a motivated Registered Veterinary Technician to join our veterinary team. This position is based primarily at our Oakville location (3 days/week), with 1 day/week at our Guelph (Breslau) location. The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently while also thriving as part of a collaborative team. Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) certification is preferred.

 

Key Areas of Responsibilities:

  • Assist veterinarian and training staff as needed
  • Nursing and caring for patients
  • Collection of blood and urine samples
  • Surgery preparation, anesthesia, and monitoring
  • Position animals for radiographs
  • Veterinary dentistry
  • Demonstrate a high level of care and concern for canine wellbeing
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with team members and volunteers
  • Provide excellent customer service while communicating with and educating foster families on preventative care, follow-up care, medications and general pet wellness
  • Maintain a clean and safe vet clinic/kennel environment
  • Maintain accurate medical and behavioral records
  • Follow all required health and safety policies and procedures

 

You will bring to the opportunity:

  • Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) and proven knowledge and clinic experience is preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience required
  • Proven passion for and ability to work with dogs of all breeds and sizes
  • Self-starter and able to work independently with limited supervision but also the willingness and ability to effectively function as a member of a larger team as well as take and follow instructions and directions
  • Demonstrated capacity to work in a busy and at times, noisy work environment
  • Excellent organization and time-management skills with the ability to effectively prioritize workloads, multi-task, respond adeptly to shifting priorities and act quickly to immediate needs
  • Proven experience and knowledge of veterinary procedures, such as administering medications, drawing blood and assisting in surgeries
  • Comfortable and safe handling skills for dogs of all sizes and temperaments
  • Understand and demonstrate proper animal husbandry protocols
  • Ability to identify signs of canine ill health and treat as prescribed
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Accurate record keeping
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Flexible availability
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Valid G driver’s license
  • Police background check for vulnerable sectors

 

Position Details

  • Location: Oakville and Guelph (Breslau), ON
  • Type: Full-time, 6-month contract (with potential for extension)
  • Hours: Monday–Thursday, 8:00 am – 6:00 pm
