Our ideal candidate requires:

  • Registered Veterinary Technician with the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians
  • Experience in Surgery and anesthesia is an asset
  • Enthusiasm, energy and a positive attitude

  • A strong desire to learn and apply skills to deliver high quality medicine

Duties and responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Surgeon, the duties and responsibilities of the Surgery RVT include:

  • Strong emphasis on patient care
  • Communicate with clients during collection of history, patient discharges or getting clinical updates over the phone and helping answer client clinical questions
  • Medical record documentation (including flow sheets, daily soaps, pertinent laboratory data, prescriptions and other data systems) and transmitting this information to other services who will be involved on an individual case basis
  • Assist during patient examinations and procedures
  • Administer sedation and monitor patients as required for procedures
  • Anesthesia – case preparation and set up of anesthetic machine, monitors, anesthetic agents required for case and specialized equipment as per the AHP Anesthetic SOP
  • Provide continuous monitoring of the animal throughout the entire anesthetic period
  • Create and manage patient day sheets according to surgeons orders
  • Acquire radiographs
  • Operate CT scanner
  • Collect and prepare samples
  • Performing and submitting laboratory samples
  • Administering oral, IM, IV medications
  • Ability to use independent judgment and initiative
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to participate as a cooperative team member
  • Detail oriented, strong proficiency and efficiency with computer systems and software
  • Should be able to multitask
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Other duties as assigned
