Job Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) to join our dynamic team at our busy Emergency Veterinary Clinic. As a crucial member of our veterinary healthcare team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to animals in urgent and critical situations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in emergency and critical care, possess excellent technical skills, a strong work ethic, efficient problem solving and be dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care.

The Registered Veterinary Technician is responsible for, but not limited to:

Patient Care:
Triage and assess incoming patients, prioritizing cases based on urgency.
Administer medications, treatments, and intravenous fluids as directed by the veterinarian.
Monitor and record vital signs, fluid intake/output, and other relevant patient parameters.
Provide comfort and supportive care to patients in distress.
Provide continued care for hospitalized patients.

Diagnostic Procedures:
Assist veterinarians in performing diagnostic procedures, including radiography, ultrasound, and laboratory tests (hematology, clinical chemistry, cytology, urinalysis, etc.), utilizing appropriate equipment and techniques.
Proficiently handle and process laboratory samples for analysis.
Ensure accurate and timely documentation of diagnostic results.

Surgical Procedures:
Prepare and assist in surgical procedures, including patient prep, anesthesia monitoring, and surgical instrument sterilization.
Monitor post-operative patients and provide appropriate care.

Emergency Interventions:
Respond quickly and efficiently to emergency cases, including trauma, toxicity, and critical medical conditions.
Collaborate with the veterinary team to stabilize and manage critical patients.

Client Communication:
Communicate effectively with clients, providing updates on patient status and explaining treatment plans.
Offer compassionate support and education to pet owners in times of distress.

Equipment Maintenance:
Maintain and troubleshoot medical equipment to ensure proper functionality.
Assist in stocking emergency supplies.
Document and maintain accurate veterinary medical records, ensuring confidentiality.

Team Collaboration:
Work closely with veterinarians, fellow RVTs, and support staff to deliver cohesive and comprehensive patient care.
Participate in team meetings and training sessions.
General cleanliness of the clinic.

Qualifications:

  • Current and valid Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license.
    Minimum of 1 year of experience in emergency and critical care settings.
    Strong knowledge of veterinary medical procedures, anesthesia, and patient monitoring.
  • Exceptional technical skills, including proficiency in diagnostic imaging and laboratory procedures.
  • Ability to remain calm and focused in high-stress situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills.
  • Effective time management skills in a fast paced, high-volume setting.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a team environment and independently.
    Willingness to work evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays as part of a rotating schedule.

Working Conditions:
This position involves working on a rotating 24-hour schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. The candidate must be flexible and available to work during busy periods.
