Changing the Veterinarians Act

The OAVT has been working towards modernizing the regulation of veterinary medicine in the province for many years. In November 2022, the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) announced the Veterinarians Act, RSO 1990, is open for public consultation. By asking Ontarians to provide feedback on the Act, the province has started the process of considering changes that will impact veterinary medicine, and we are a part of it. OMAFRA has released a discussion paper online for public comment until May 30th.

These proposed changes to legislation are incredibly important to the veterinary profession, RVTs, and future RVTs. OAVT Executive Director Elise Wickett, MBA, RVT and the OAVT Board of Directors will share more information about the consultation process and what it means for RVTs, and answer questions about Legislative Reform in this Town Hall Series.
