Veterinary Emergency and Referral Hospital of West Toronto is hiring a full-time Registered Veterinary Technician, Emergency – RVT to join our growing emergency team in Mississauga, Ontario. This is a current open opportunity for a Registered Veterinary Technician to build advanced ER and Critical Care skills while working alongside a highly skilled, collaborative team in a 24/7 emergency and referral hospital.
Whether you’re an experienced Registered Veterinary Technician who thrives in emergency medicine or you’re coming from general practice and ready for more complexity, you’ll have the opportunity to manage a wide variety of emergency cases, expand your technical skills, and practice at the top of your license
Compensation
- $28–$35/hour based on experience and skillset
- $2/hour overnight differential (8:00 PM–7:00 AM)
- $3,000 sign-on bonus

Schedule
- Three 12-hour shifts per week
- Rotating days and overnights
- Every other weekend required
Responsibilities
This is a hands-on Emergency Registered Veterinary Technician role where your skills will be used every day in meaningful ways. You’ll work closely with DVMs and fellow RVTs to provide exceptional patient care for urgent and critical cases.
- Triage and emergency patient assessment
- Venipuncture and IV catheter placement
- Monitoring hospitalized patients and delivering nursing care
- Patient vitals and ongoing treatment monitoring
- Anesthesia support, surgical prep, and recovery
- Diagnostic imaging including radiographs
- ECG monitoring
- Laboratory sample collection and processing
- Client communication and education
- Assisting with emergency procedures and treatments
- Advanced technical skills may include:
- Central line placement assistance
- Urinary catheter placement
- NG tubes and nasal cannulas
- Chest tubes
- Feeding tubes
- Blood transfusions
- Advanced CPR (RECOVER training provided)

Qualifications
- Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) required; CVT/LVT equivalents considered
- Emergency or critical care experience preferred, but strong GP RVTs looking to transition into ER are encouraged to apply
- Strong anesthesia and patient care skills
- Ability to prioritize and work efficiently in a fast-paced emergency setting
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Passion for emergency medicine and continued learning
- Fluent English speaking and reading skills required
