Guelph Mobile Veterinary Services -Part Time RVT

Guelph Mobile Veterinary Services is a quality mobile practice (1 vet, 2 staff) seeking a Registered Veterinary Technician for a part-time (shared) position.  We have a more laid back pace than a typical clinic setting.

We currently are restricting our practice to seniors and palliative pets.  Given such, there are quite a few end-of life calls that we accommodate.  These are understandably very sad, however, being provided in the home, it is typically a very peaceful, loving and beautiful experience.  We prioritize end of life as it is such an “important” time.

Guelph Mobile Vet has a 4 day work-week (no Friday, Saturday or Sunday calls booked).  Our first call is 11 am and last call 4 pm at the latest unless there are extenuating circumstances.  Going into clients’ homes give all our calls a very personable experience and as such we tend to develop more personal connections with the owners and pets.

We provide complete veterinary services to our clients with probably about 60% being senior pets presently.  (We kept our previous clients when we switched to senior and palliative care).  About 55% are canine patients.  Imaging and surgeries are referred to a local practice or an Emergency hospital.  We provide practical / less aggressive options for clients who desire this.

We are looking for a RVT for a part time position.  We would like to fill the position soon but have no firm deadline for a start date.  Number of hours a week would range from about 14 to 25 hours.  A schedule would be worked out with our other 2 staff.  Staff share the responsibility to monitor texts after hours for end of life calls.  We are flexible, and on that note, we try to keep our work culture “fun”.  Remuneration is clearly above the average for good “fits” ($28-$38 / hour).   Keeping good staff happy and feeling appreciated is a priority for management.

The position would require a candidate who can handle a variety of tasks, be able to work with a small team yet also be self directed with the ability to work independently.  We definitely do not practice micromanagement.  Experience with blood draws, veterinary medications, pet diets, triage and client communication are definitely assets.  A propensity to working with and seeing the big picture regarding efficiency, job prioritization and map reading / navigation skills are helpful for a mobile practice.

In summary the job provides variety, personal relationships and a slower yet steady more laid back pace than a clinic setting.  There is a positive work culture, flexibility in scheduling, and staff are definitely appreciated (I for sure do 😉).  We look forward to discussing a position with you.
