The Fort Erie SPCA is looking to fill the position of:

Registered Veterinary Technician – Surgery Locum

This position is two days per week: 7:30am – 6:30pm

Daily tasks include:

  • Admit surgical patients as they are checked in. Weigh, examine, and report any health concerns to veterinarian in clinic
  • Perform preanesthetic injections, induce patient, intubate, and maintain under general anesthesia
  • Monitor anesthesia and maintain proper surgical plane
  • Recover patient and monitor throughout the day performing post-operative checks on vitals
  • Handle and track controlled substances for large volumes of surgical patients
  • Administer vaccinations, dose out post-operative medications, and perform treatments at the direction of veterinarian on clinic
  • Discharge patient to owner with clear instructions for post-operative care
  • Respond appropriately during an emergency, follow veterinarian instructions and maintain the competency of CPR procedures
  • Communicate in an effective and professional manner with the public and coworkers
  • Be a “team leader” by displaying a positive attitude and acting as a motivating force for all staff members
  • Follow all safety guidelines to ensure a safe work environment in compliance with OSHA regulations
  • Demonstrate initiative and a flexible work schedule while working enthusiastically and cooperatively with all clinic and shelter staff
  • Adhere to all Code of Conduct standards
  • We do not use Ai to select applicants
  • Locum RVT’s are paid hourly – every 2 weeks upon invoicing the clinic
