Registered Veterinary Technician

Central Ontario Veterinary Services is looking for a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT). We are a mobile large-animal practice based out of our office in Barrie, Ontario, providing quality veterinary services for horses and farm livestock in Simcoe County, the District of Muskoka, and the surrounding area. Our team consists of four veterinarians, two registered veterinary technicians, an office manager, and a receptionist/administrative assistant. This full-time, contract position is available immediately.

Candidates must be eligible for registration with the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians and the College of Veterinary Professionals of Ontario, and have a valid driver’s license and the use of a vehicle. Registered Veterinary Technicians at Central Ontario Veterinary Services must be comfortable working with horses and farm livestock, be intrinsically motivated, and be able to communicate professionally with clients and other team members. Key areas of responsibility include:

– Assisting veterinarians at clients’ premises with procedures on horses and farm livestock including animal handling, radiography, endoscopy, anesthesia, surgery, dentistry, administration of medications, charting, and keeping of electronic medical records.

– Independent visits to clients’ premises to perform procedures within the scope of practice of a Registered Veterinary Technician (mileage reimbursed at CRA standard rate)

– Sample collection/ preparation and use of hematology and chemistry analyzers

– Dispensing medications in accordance with a veterinarian’s prescription

– Limited telephone/counter reception
