Animal Health Partners is a new state-of-the-art emergency and specialty hospital in Toronto! We are a 32 vet, 110 staff member hospital housed within a 20,000 square foot facility fully equipped with specialty technology found nowhere else in Canada, including our AI triage system and 3 Tesla MRI. We take our commitment to animals, pet parents and the community seriously. We are currently looking for a dynamic, experienced, and leadership focused RVT to join our growing management team. Under the supervision of the Practice Manager and with support from the Chief of Staff, the duties and responsibilities of the RVT Supervisor include, but are not limited to, the following:
Technical Duties, 50%:
Work 1-3 days per week in role as a RVT.
Rotate among departments, assist ER and specialty veterinarians with patients and appointments.
Adjust schedule accordingly to be able cover shifts and schedule gaps whenever possible and as assigned by the Practice Manager.
Administrative and Personnel Duties, 50%:
Direct supervision, management, and training of the Individual department RVT Leads
Assist Departmental RVT Leads in the creation of work schedules for the 47 RVTs that align with the needs of the hospital, service, clinicians, and support staff.
Ensure technical staff scheduling operates within budget.
Conduct RVT meetings.
Attend Hospital Leadership meetings.
Meet weekly with Practice Manager and Medical Director.
Meet weekly and work directly with the ACA Supervisor and CSR/Liaison Supervisor.
Assist in the recruiting, hiring, and on boarding of new technicians.
Develop, implement, and update a training program with the RVT Department Leads for new hires and conduct 30-, 60- and 90-day reviews.
Organize regular training sessions for RVTs.
Resolve informal employee complaints; provide a general explanation of the nature and basis for hospital personnel policies and procedures. Maintain effective employee-management communication.
Make recommendations to the Practice Manager concerning performance concerns, personnel matters, disciplinary actions and follow through.
Review the performance of RVTs and with an annual coaching session and written review, to be conducted with the Practice Manager.
Oversee paid leave requests in conjunction with the Practice Manager and HR/Operations Manager.
Ensure that all registered veterinary technicians maintain licensing requirements.
Coordinate internship programs with area schools.
Use engagement surveys to evaluate and adjust protocols and priorities to better meet the needs of the RVT team.
