New 50th Anniversary OAVT Logo
January 24, 2020
The Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians (OAVT) is excited to unveil its new 50th anniversary logo.
Before there were Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVTs), there were Animal Health Technicians (AHTs). The first AHT program in North America began in 1967 at Centralia College, near Exeter, Ontario. In April 1970, a group of graduates from that program decided to form an association as a way of staying in touch with other Centralia AHT grads. Fifty years later, that association has grown into the OAVT as we know it today.
The OAVT is the oldest RVT professional association in North America, and second oldest in the world (behind only the British Veterinary Nursing Association which was founded in 1965)!
That is something worth celebrating - and we want our colleagues, stakeholders, industry partners and the public to recognize the OAVT as a well-established, steady and prominent association that is here to support Ontario’s RVTs.
The OAVT is not only one of the most historic associations of its kind, but many of the OAVT’s members are some of the longest-serving RVTs in the world. They are trailblazers, helping to shape this profession and push animal healthcare forward.
Please note that the blue RVT seal is not going anywhere. The RVT seal represents RVTs. The RVT seal belongs to Ontario RVTs.
The new logo, however, is a reflection of our association. As the OAVT undergoes some major changes over the next two years with the modernization of the Veterinarians Act, we need a strong logo that will grow with us during this next chapter.
Along with this new logo, the OAVT has other plans to celebrate and recognize our 50th year. Stay tuned for those announcements in the coming weeks.
If you have the old OAVT logo on your website, social media pages or in any documents, please email Natalie@oavt.org to get a copy of the new logo.
